Vietnam has been a state member of CISG since January 01, 2017, CISG’s State Members currently account for a large share of Vietnam's export-import turnover. In 2020, Vietnam's total export-import turnover reached more than USD 545 billion, which was nearly doubled Vietnam’s GDP, at USD 271.16 billion.
In Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC), disputes related to the sale of goods contracts accounted for the largest proportion, up to 44,4 % of total cases accepted in 2021. Disputes in commercial and trade categories are also the most common types of claims filed at the Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC), with 30% in 2021. Additionally, in 2021, Vietnam is one of the top users of SIAC.
CISG is estimated to be the most popular treaty and is widely applied by 96 member countries. However, the principles of the CISG are still new to the Vietnamese legal framework as well as to commercial lawyers.
