Arbitrator Nguyễn Mạnh Dũng, Director of ADR Vietnam Chambers, Participates in UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Day 2024 in Vietnam – December 20, 2024
The UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Days (AP Days) is an annual initiative by UNCITRAL RCAP aimed at promoting the understanding and application of UNCITRAL standards across the Asia-Pacific region. Hosting AP Days 2024 in Vietnam provides a strategic opportunity to contribute to the country’s ongoing legal reform, particularly as the 2010 Commercial Arbitration Law is under review for amendment. This event will serve as a critical forum to deeply discuss the benefits of the UNCITRAL Model Law and the vision for its application, supporting the modernization of Vietnam’s arbitration legal framework and aligning it more closely with international practices. Accordingly, VIAC, in collaboration with the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNCITRAL RCAP, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, will co-organize the AP Days event in Vietnam.
The event program includes three in-depth discussion sessions:
- Session 1: Overview of UNCITRAL's Legal Framework for Arbitration
- Session 2: The UNCITRAL Model Law in the Context of Vietnam
- Session 3: Overview of UNCITRAL’s ISDS Reform Efforts
Notably, in Session 2, arbitrator Nguyễn Mạnh Dũng, Director of ADR Vietnam Chambers LLC and Deputy Director of the Institute for Research and Training on International Arbitration (VIART) under VIAC, will act as Moderator. This session will focus on aspects related to the application of the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration in the context of Vietnam’s amendment to its Commercial Arbitration Law, aiming to better align with international standards. The session will feature insights from leading experts, including:
- Dr. Nguyễn Thị Hoa, Lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law and Standing Member of the Vietnam Society of Construction Law (SCLVN).
- Mr. Jae Sung Lee, Senior Legal Officer in the International Trade Law Division of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs.
