IBA Law Firm Governance Initiative
The Law Firm Governance Initiative - Best Practice Governance Guidelines was first introduced by the International Bar Association (IBA) in 2008. This initiative aims to provide law firms worldwide with a reference framework to improve governance structures, ensure effective management, uphold professional ethics, and enhance adaptability in an ever-changing legal landscape. The initiative encompasses various aspects of law firm operations, such as:
- Decision-making structures and leadership selection processes
- Communication among partners and with the leadership team
- Capital management and profit-sharing methods
- Recruitment policies
- Training and staff development
- Performance management
- Client relationships
This initiative is designed to accommodate law firms of varying sizes and cultural contexts, encouraging firms to self-assess and refine governance practices to achieve greater efficiency and success.
Webinar Series: "Professional Law Firm Governance - Real and Fictional Stories"
Building on this initiative, ADR Vietnam Chambers, in collaboration with senior member lawyers from leading commercial law firms in Vietnam, is organizing a series of online webinars titled "Professional Law Firm Governance - Real and Fictional Stories". These webinars aim to provide a platform for law firms to share experiences, analyze challenges, and explore innovative solutions in law firm governance. This comes at a time when the legal industry is experiencing rapid changes and increasing demands for governance competency, and as the Law on Lawyers is being reviewed and amended to align with current practices.
Details about the webinar series will be officially announced by ADR Vietnam Chambers on Friday, January 10, 2025, during the Meeting with Arbitrator Nguyễn Mạnh Dũng.
