Topic 1. General Provisions
The first session in the series, titled "General Provisions," directs its focus on the general provisions of the UNCITRAL Model Law and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. The four main policy directions of the Editorial Board when drafting the proposals are to be discussed. The event aims to articulate these policies, as also the inherent need for new amendments taking in full consideration of the similarities and differences between the UNCITRAL Model Law and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the 2010 Law on Commercial Arbitration and the VIAC Rules. Various aspects of the amendments will be addressed, including the scope and subject matter of the law, fundamental legal concepts, the role of express language in arbitration proceedings, waiver of rights, general principles, the supervisory and supportive role of the court in arbitration proceedings, time bar, notification in arbitration, legal representative in arbitration, and the authority to appoint and replace arbitrators, etc.
