In 2023, the dispute resolution activities at the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) witnessed a record number of 424 cases handled, an increase of 46.2% compared to 2022. This marks a vibrant and challenging year for the arbitration field in Vietnam. The most disputed areas were recorded in the sectors of goods trading, import-export, construction, real estate, and other services.
The 2023 statistics from VIAC show that 87.9% of disputes involved lawyers' participation, compared to only 44% in 2022 and 50.7% in 2021. This indicates the growing demand in the domestic market for lawyers with experience and in-depth knowledge in the field of arbitration, not to mention the international market. Additionally, Legal Expertise and Education are two of the top three factors in the Ten London Centenary Principles by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) to create an ideal seat of arbitration.
To promote teaching and emphasize the importance of self-research and learning about international arbitration principles properly, as well as to provide basic guidance for Vietnamese arbitration practitioners, and to realize the discussions at Session D of the VIAC Symposium 2024, VIAC, ADR Vietnam Chambers, and the Vietnam International Arbitration Research and Training Institute (VIART) are collaborating to organize the VAS Crossover 2024 online event series with the theme "Elevating International Arbitration in Vietnam: From Basic Principles to Professional Skills".
