[RECAP] VAS CROSSOVER 2024 | TOPIC 02 – ADVOCACY SKILLS FOR LAWYERS IN INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION
On the afternoon of August 16th, ADR Vietnam Chambers and the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) jointly held an online seminar focusing on Topic 02 of the VAS CROSSOVER 2024 series – Elevating International Arbitration in Vietnam: From Basic Principles to Professional Skills. In this session, experts shared and discussed the topic “Advocacy Skills for Lawyers in International Arbitration.”
The event attracted significant interest, reaching the registration limit of 500 participants, with a peak attendance of approximately 350 participants, highlighting the broad interest within the legal community in international arbitration.
Moderated by Lawyer Đỗ Khôi Nguyên and Arbitrator Nguyễn Mạnh Dũng, guests from law firms and arbitration centers discussed key skill sets for lawyers in international arbitration, including (i) Strategy Building and Preparation for Proceedings; (ii) Written Advocacy; (iii) Oral Advocacy during Hearings; (iv) Cross-Examination; and (v) Document Production. Among these, the three main skills discussed were written advocacy, oral advocacy, and cross-examination.
During the seminar, the organizers also provided access to various resources on arbitration and mediation. Notably, two documents: ICC Facilitating Settlement in International Arbitration and the Vietnamese translation of the IBA Rules on the Taking of Evidence in International Arbitration received nearly 300 views and downloads.
